International Ambassador Scholarship

The Jackson State International Ambassador Scholarship is intended to support student study and travel abroad. The tiered scholarship covers a percentage of the program cost after any other scholarships are applied.

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled at JSCC
  • Active members in a JSCC club such as Multicultural Student Association (MSA) or Spanish Club
  • In good academic standing
  • Have a minimum 2.0 G.P.A.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of travel
  • Must complete 12 college level credit hours prior to travel
  • Must obtain a valid passport prior to travel

A complete application for this scholarship will include:

  • Application cover letter
  • Typed 500 word essay addressing the topic: Why I want to study abroad.
  • Two letters of support, one from a JSCC faculty member
  • Interview with the International Activities Coordinator and/or International Education Committee

Upon accepting an International Ambassador Scholarship, the applicant agrees to the following terms and conditions:

  1. Before my trip:
    • I will assist in promoting international programs and recruiting applicants from all JSCC locations.
    • I will serve as a volunteer at one or more JSCC International events.
  2. During my trip:
    • I will serve as an international ambassador by assisting the Program Director as requested for the duration of the program.
    • I will keep a daily journal of experiences that details my activities and analyzes the differences between my native culture and the one in which I am immersed. My journal will be reviewed by the IAC at the conclusion of the study or travel abroad experience and must be turned into the IAC no later than one month after the end of the program.
  3. After my trip:
    • I will present my experiences to a minimum of two classes/college groups.
    • I will provide JSCC three pictures from my travel and a quote to be used by JSCC for recruitment purposes.
    • I will assist the JSCC IAC with promoting study abroad programs and recruiting applicants from all JSCC campuses.
    • I will participate in an informational meeting at JSCC, take part in panels, and be interviewed by students/faculty/community. I understand that even if I am no longer a JSCC student, I will still be required to participate in this recruitment program.
    • I will serve as a volunteer at one or more JSCC International events.
  4. At all times:
    • I will maintain a positive and respectful attitude and conduct myself in a way that is appropriate for an International Ambassador of the college.

International Ambassador Scholarship recipients who fail to meet the terms and conditions of this scholarship will not be eligible for future scholarship opportunities at Jackson State and may be referred to the Vice President for Student Services for further action.
