Classroom Safety

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to foster classroom safety by defining classroom safety measures. Safety of students is of utmost importance to Jackson State Community College (JSCC). 

Definitions

Official Class Period – the assigned time for the course in the official schedule of classes. 

Scope

This policy applies to all JSCC on-ground credit and non-credit courses, on all JSCC campuses. 

Policy

Faculty and adjunct faculty are asked to adhere to the following standards of classroom safety. 

  • Classroom doors should be shut and locked during the official class period. 
  • For classes needing to relocate permanently or temporarily, the appropriate Dean’s office must be notified before the move is made. Permanent moves must be approved through the appropriate channels and entered into Banner. 
  • Faculty will inform students of JSCC emergency procedures during the first class period. 

Compliance

All JSCC faculty (including adjunct faculty) and staff must adhere to this policy.
