Faculty Council

Type: Standing Committee

Authority: Advisory to the Vice President for Academic Affairs

Purpose

  • It shall be the purpose of the Faculty Council to serve in the following capacities:
  • The Faculty Council shall be empowered to act on the behalf of the faculty in all matters pertaining directly to faculty welfare and morale.
  • The Faculty Council shall act as an advisory board to the administration via the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Council shall have the power to require written notice of administration action taken or of administrative refusal to act and the reasons therefore.
  • The Faculty Council shall act as a communications link between the faculty and the administration and shall perform such duties as required by either, provided such duties do not exceed the power invested in the Council.
  • The Faculty Council shall act as the official representative of the faculty in assisting the Vice President for Academic Affairs in the evaluation of graduation proposals.
  • The Faculty Council shall initiate the selection of recipients of special Faculty Awards to be given at graduation exercises.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the purposes of the Council as listed above.
  • Distribute an agenda prior to each meeting.
  • Keep minutes of all meetings and submit them, along with an annual report, to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the end of each academic year. These are archived in the library at the end of the following academic year.
  • Elect officers at the April Faculty Council meeting.
  • Meet regularly during the academic year.
  • Act on behalf of the faculty in all matters pertaining directly to faculty welfare and morale.
  • Act as an advisory board to the administration of the college, via the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • Initiate the selection of recipients of special faculty awards to be given at graduation exercises.
