Admissions and Standards

Type: Standing Committee
Authority: Decision-making, based upon TBR and JSCC policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet during in-service week each semester and at discretion of Chair.
  • Distribute an agenda prior to each meeting.
  • Keep minutes of all meetings.
  • Submit minutes of each meeting promptly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for use is case of appeals. Minutes are sent to the library by the Academic Affairs Office at the end of the following academic year to be archived.
  • Submit an annual report at the end of each academic year to the Academic Affairs Office. Reports will be archived in the library at the end of the following academic year.
  • Grant or deny appeals of students who are seeking enrollment but do not fulfill academic standards or admission requirements.
  • Grant or deny appeals of academic standing of currently enrolled students.
  • Grant or deny appeals of students who are classified as out-of-state students and are seeking residency status.
  • Grant or deny appeal of transfer students on disciplinary suspension at another institution.

Admissions and Standards Committee Structure:

  • Minimum of  two (2) faculty members – can either be 12-month faculty members of 9-month who are teaching during the summer.  (Even Year / Odd Year)
  • One representative from BUS/CIS/IT) (Even year)
  • One representative from Allied Health (Even year)
  • One representative from Nursing (Odd year)
  • One representative from Communication and Humanities (Even year)
  • One representative from Math & Natural Sciences (Odd year)
  • One representative from Social & Behavioral Sciences (Odd year)
  • One non-faculty representative (Optional) (Annually)
  • Permanent Member – Dean of Students  - Chair
  • Permanent Member – Counseling Staff
  • Permanent Member – Registration Center Director
